i'm a year late but spotify is the best thing on the internet. it's got everything! guilty pleasures, records i'd forgotten about and rareties galore. this is why the web is such an amazing thing. i spoke to my friends yesterday about the purpose of pop music and someone pointed out that it's a superficial thing, escapism of a sort but then surely you can use that accusation against any medium that people indulge in. whether you read an important political text or listen to a catchy song then if an emotion has been elicited then surely the purpose has been fulfilled. what opportunity that emotion allows is another question altogether but i don't think that a snobbery should exist in terms of music, literature, plays or any of the arts. which is why spotify is so amazing as it democratizes music and allows access to so much for free.
